Ballet

Pre Ballet and Ballet classes are offered for children ages 2-1/2 and up. Beginning level classes meet once a week and include basic technique, barre work and center practice. Intermediate and Advanced level classes meet at least twice weekly and include choreography from various ballets.

Our training program stresses Vaganova style Russian ballet technique. Dancers become strong, flexible and knowledgeable about dance terms and music.

The Salinas School of Dance provides professional dance training in a traditional setting, producing well rounded, strong and versatile dancers who have been accepted to the Cleveland Ballet School, San Francisco Ballet School and London Festival Ballet School, to name a few....Our ballet students have traveled to England, Russia and Seattle to train with high quality teachers.

Tap Dance

The studio offers both jazz and tap classes for children and adults at all levels. Children under 12 years of age are required to take ballet in addition to tap or jazz. This is to insure they learn the technique necessary to be successful dancers. As students get older and more proficient, they are advanced into faster paced, more intense jazz and tap programs, learning a variety of choreography. Jazz and tap class include much contemporary music and do not require uniforms.

Beginning and Intermediate Tap classes are also available for adults of all ages.

Tappin' Dads

Tappin' Dads brings fathers into the studio to learn tap. Their weekly classes provide a bonding experience with their daughters as they struggle to learn difficult moves and dance with their girls. This program has grown to two classes and the fathers enjoy learning and performing with their daughters. The studio is now home to a Beginning Tappin' Dads class as well as an Intermediate level for the more experienced dancers. In the words of one dad, "This is the best workout a guy can get!"

Adult Tap

Do not miss the fun and exercise! This class includes basic and intermediate technique, cramp rolls, time steps, drills and a variety of fun dances. Dances taught to students include both tra- ditional Broadway style tap dances and more modern character dances. A new favorite is the very simple, but funny "walker" dance as it is called by current students. Decorate your own prop and find your character to portray in this dance from a famous musical.

Irish Dance

Irish dance classes are offered for children from age four through adults at all levels. The classes provide instruction in both traditional Irish step dancing and the more contemporary style of Irish dancing made famous by shows such as Riverdance.

  • Irish Babies is a class for 4-8 year old current students who are already enrolled in a ballet class. A fun and basic introduction to Irish dancing for our youngest students.
  • Wee Feet is for the youngest, most beginning level dancers, teaching basic reels and jigs.
  • Intermediate Irish provides intermediate level training and includes some team and ceili dances.
  • Beginning Irish dancing for adults will include reels, jigs and ceili dances at a moderate pace. No previous dance experience is required. This class is strictly for fun! This class will move more slowly and be less demanding than our regular program and will require some stretching for warm up and very easy basic Irish steps. It will be taught by an assistant teacher under the supervision of Lisa Eisemann. Adults should be in good health and without any physical problems.
  • Intermediate Ceili class is for strong dancers and stresses higher level reels, jigs, slip jigs and many ceili and team dances. This class is taught at a very fast pace.
  • Advanced Irish is for only the highest level dancers at the studio, including the elite team of the Spirit of Salinas Irish Dancers who made their first trip to the world level competition in Ireland in 2005.
